Requirements
Valid pilot license and ATR72 rating or B737 rating will be an added advantage. The flying hours is between4750 – 6000 and 1000 hrs on jet aircraft.

1. Aircraft maintenance engineer – These are the people responsible to repair and maintain the aircraft in a good condition.
It quoted the LWTR – license without type rating and B2 EASA license and knowledge on ATR 72 is an added advantage.
2. Pilot with ATR72 rating. – This position was advertised last week.
The airline is looking for a captain for its fleet. The applicant has to have the Malaysian ATPL and 3500 clocked hours with 1000 as PIC.
3. There are a number of vacancies in the ground operation, in the documentation and cargo operation. Cargo is normally divided into 2 bid section, the cargo sales and operation.

a. Revenue Analyse – to develop strategies to improve revenue and tract the daily inventory.
As opposed to the physic products, the airlines inventory is the seat for sale. The inventory will loss its value once the flight departs. The aircraft seats are divided into different classes, even the economy class are further regroups according to a certain agreed groups.
b. Ground Operation- Standard Procedure and Publication
He or she is responsible to maintain and update the operation manual.
c. Pilot for ATR 72- for the position of Captain, must have Malaysian ATPL with 3,500 flying hours and 1000 as pilot in command.

When a customers wanted to book a ticket by phone, he will call the published number, the people working at the CALL CENTER responds to the customers call.

Personal Comments
Based on my experience working fir Firefly’s parent company, working in call center suited those who are not ambitious. The is no much chance to get higher position. The skills your are going to get will be the reservation skill, that means you will be trained to use the company’s passengers reservation systems and to deal with the customers on the phone.
The working condition may not be attractive as you need to work shift. The reservation office opens 24 hours per day.
The staff turn over is very high, some are working and awaiting for another opportunities.

About Firefly: It started in 2007, operated by Fly Firefly Sdn Bhd, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Malaysian Airlines. It is a community airline hubbing from Subang and Penang. It serves various destination Malaysia, Southern Thailand, Singapore and Sumatera of Indonesia.
Recently the airline announce its jet operation from Kuala Lumpur International Airport.

1. Executive Firefly Holiday
I think this is more like the tour package development. So the person had to develop tour or holiday packages based on the routes of the airlines. It may plays 2 roles, first, the holiday packages can be used to promote a certain destination. Secondly, it can be viewed as a business venture, like Golden Holidays in MAS.
He may have to work with tour operators, hotels and transport companies. He may need to deal with government agencies that want to promote a tourist destination or arrange for tourist visa. Some government, or even city mayors want to promote their city, they may have some budget or special offers. Then the executive for firefly holiday has to know and collaborate for mutual advantage.
This is what is written in the job responsibilities:
- Define and develop travel products that complement the airline in boosting the tourism industry
- Explore and source for potential partners in forming strategic alliances to meet corporate objectives
- Prepare daily performance reports with detailed analysis
- Ensure daily operations run smoothly
- Manage the financial performance of given portfolio
2. Manager Line Management
The second position in the firefly job is the Line Manager. Airline normally divided its station into 2 groups, the line station and base stations. In the case of firefly, the base is Subang and Penang.
As far as line stations are concerned, there are two distinct tasks to be handled:
a. The set up
b. The running of line stations.
Looking at the job’s responsibility, the incumbent is responsible for both. The setting will involve many persons in the airline. The question of economic viability, whether present or potential has to be debated. Even though it is economical, an airline may not open the route if the resources are not suitable, for example, the availability of aircraft to fly the distant of the route. Lastly, the government approval has to be obtained, despite the talk about the open sky and the deregulation.
The running of the stations is the next step. There are at least four elements to be monitored for a station.
a. The revenue – in this case the Manager does not seem to be responsible for it,
b. The expenses or cost management – This is one one of his responsibilies.
c. The efficiency – the measurement matrix can be difficult. Example, If you only have one flight per day, the staff efficiency can be difficult to obtain.
d. The on time performance

Comment
1. The term executive needs some explanation. In certain segment, like banking, Executive position is a high level position. But not in MAS and I think in AirAsia too, because the key players for Firefly are or were MAS staff. In MAS, executive is below a manager, with limited power to make decisions.
2. In cargo, there are two basic functions that require different kind of competencies, one is the sale function and the other is the operation. The operation is concerned on processing the goods, the palleting, packaging ot the goods to meet the requirement of the customers and the authority.
note: MAS lost one aircraft Airbus, due the cargo mishandling, the chemical leakage had caused unrepairable structural damage. “Unrepairable means, it cost more to repair than to scrap”.
