MAS Announced Profit FY2010 -POSTED 26 Feb 2011
The Malaysian National Carrier announced profit of RM264mil for the financial year 2009. It represents a drop of profit from the 2009 figure of RM522mil.
FY 2010
The main reason quotes for the lower profit was the high cost of fuel. According to the CEO, fuel remains as the single main expenses and with present fluctuation, it is difficult to predict the future price.
The airline’s capacity, in term of available seat kilometers, grew by 4%, inline with the industry’s growth. However the traffic had improved by 15%, which was higher compared to the industry’s average. This had brought up the load factor to 76.2 for Fy 2010. The sale had also increased from FY99 of 11.7bil to 13.5bil
Q4 for the Year 2010
1. The profit for Q4 was RM226mil , represents a drop from RM640mil for similar period for 2009.
2. The revenue was in fact higher at RM3.6bil from the previous year of RM3.3bil.
3. The load factor was also increasing from 76.5 to 77.4
4. The fuel cost was rm1.2bil from the previous year rm1.06. This represent 33% of the revenue for 2010 and 32.1% for the Q4 of year 2009.
The airline is expected to increase the fuel surcharge based on the fuel market price. However, the surcharge is always below the increase fuel cost that the airline has to foot the bill.
